An insight into me, my working history and qualifications / education
I was a highly competitive sports person whom back in the day particpated in most sports - particularly Athletics (Javelin & Hammer achieving Junior International Honours). Rugby followed playing front row for what was St Albans Ladies in the Premiership. A significant neck injury the day after being selected at England Trials, stopped my chosen sport in it's tracks. One year of rehab followed then finally I completed my degree. I played football for a number of years however again injury put paid to that. I soon saw myself take up the mantle of Met Police Ladies Football Manager in 2004. In 2012 I was approached to set up and manage the GB Police Ladies Football Team which I am proud to say I led to the European Police Ladies Football Championships in 2012 (Copenhagen) & 2016 (Prague).
I pride myself on having and maintaining a good level of fitness and strength despite the aging body. Years of experience playing various sports and now developing other people's fitness in their chosen sports keeps me passionate about having a healthy lifestyle and using sport / exercise to do that. It's a way of life - it's in my blood.
I worked for Peter Brown Wellness Management from Jan 2000 - Jan 2002 at McKinsey & Company in London. I was a Personal Trainer (wellness coach) to consultants and partners within the world-wide management firm. I always wanted to be a Physical Training Instructor. In June 2001 a vacancy at the Metropolitan Police was advertised. I wasted no time in applying and was successful, starting in January 2002. In 2018 the MPS outsourced Occupational Health so I'm now technically employed by Opitima Health but I still see myself as Met Police since Jan 2002 - ongoing F/T
Physical Training Instructor & Rehabilitaion Therapist (with the Met Police)
For 10 years I helped and guided many a new recruit through Hendon Police Training School . I have been lucky enough to have taught Police Cycle Training, First Aid, Manual Handling, along with a huge catalogue of physical training and lifesaving. I was involved in the health screening of over 13,000 Police Officers and Staff which included Height / Weight / BMI / Body Fat Percentage / Blood Sugars / Cholestrol and General Lifestyle assessments. Those in need were offered guidance with nutrition and exercise programmes. The campaign was to improve the overall health of the organisation and reduce sickness. My role for the last three years has been to offer Injury Rehabilitation for Officers and Staff to assist them to return to full duties swiftly. I also work alongside Occupational Health and perform annual health screenings for Firearms and CBRN Officers, including eye testing, hearing tests, lung function, and of course fitness testing for all. I instruct / deliver on the MPS Volunteer Cadet Instructors Course and Police Fitness Instructors Course. Mentoring Officers trying to achieve higher levels of fitness is also a key part of my job.
In April 2015 I went part time to set up my own company. Taking my wealth of experience and knowledge to people outwith the Police. Helping them to achieve their goals and develop themselves in whatever fashion they desire. I am passionate about improving individuals self confidence / self esteem and using exercise as a medium to achieve this.
In 2018 I set up a Massage Therapy Clinic as part of my job role with SCO19 (Met Police Firearms Unit) and have seen a reduction in Days Off / Sickness and a positive in Firearms Courses being completed despite stress, injury, and fatigue. This intervention has also assisted some Officers with mental health issues. Afterall Policing is a Stressful Role.I returned to F/T to run this clinic.
